STILL LIFE

Quarantine has effected all of us, and this work strives to explore the feelings associated with that abrupt change. Time seems to pass in a non-linear fashion, feeling distorted and surreal (while ultimately slipping away quickly and quietly.) Clutter starts to build up over time as we are confined to our homes; our private spaces become something entirely different. Smaller, nest- like environments within our larger living spaces develop, with everything within arm’s reach. We become hyper aware of our surroundings, every sound or passersby. It’s these moments of absolute isolation that can be jarring. This work explores this feeling through the lens of a performed identity, with ties to the alternative (and even retro) scene. The figure here is passing time, with their ‘nest’ of choice surrounding them.

Hailey Brancato

Hailey Brancato’s work focuses on the body as a genderless experience when put into the context of sexual experiences. Hailey uses both comedy and body horror to explore some of the different kinds of feelings that can be experienced in these scenarios. Hailey uses a multitude of materials in coordination with these themes in order to create something raw and open, that you can feel. In all, my practices come together to create affective and intimate explorations of the body and the self.
