As technology involving the manipulation of human genes develops further, we must consider the ethical and societal complications that may arise as a result. With the use of CRISPR technologies, we have already achieved the ability of gene editing for the purpose of helping humans by eliminating entities at the molecular level to treat or prevent life-threatening diseases. However, there is the possibility of this technology developing into the realm of gene selection or gene editing for eugenic purposes. We must ask ourselves who gets access to these technologies. Who gets to decide what traits are considered desirable or superior? Will natural human diversity be diminished over time?
